Damson Wood Celebrate Reading!

On Thursday 5th March, children and staff at Damson Wood Nursery and Infant School Academy celebrated their love of reading by dressing up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day. This is an annual event in Damson Wood’s calendar and one that children across the school thoroughly enjoy taking part in.
‘Encouraging a lifelong love of reading is a key priority at Damson Wood and World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity for children, parents and staff to share their favourite books,’ said Mrs Hume, Headteacher, ‘This year, everyone has been even more engaged than ever showcasing a huge variety of unique and creative costumes!’
This event forms part of Damson Wood’s central aim to ensure children become fluent, engaged and confident readers. The inspiring resources and broad curriculum at Damson Wood and Woodies Childcare aims to promote an enduring love of reading. Their provision includes an improved library facility, cosy and well-resourced reading corners in every classroom, parent workshops, and parents and carers are invited into school for two mornings each week to read with their child. This is all having a powerful impact on children reading skills and enjoyment!
