  • Rowan Class Assembly

Wed 30 Jan 2019 Miss Hughes

Last Thursday, we were treated to a high-quality class assembly presented by Rowan. The children shared lots of interesting information about South Africa, the current theme of Year 2’s learning this half term. We found out about South African animals, clothing and weather – it sounds a lot warmer in sunny South Africa where they are enjoying summer at the moment! Well done to the children for their preparation and performance; you spoke clearly and we particularly enjoyed your singing, dancing and signing. Thank you also to Miss Greenwood, Mrs Jones and Mr Dahele for their support.

  • Ambition Week

Wed 23 Jan 2019 Miss Hughes

Last week, we had a wonderful week of inspiration during our Ambition Week with so many different exciting visitors and activities at Damson Wood. We were pleased to welcome an engineer from JLR, some firefighters, a paramedic, a nurse, a police officer, an animal carer and photographer and a musician into school to share their experience in their job with our pupils. The children were able to try on uniform, look around vehicles, and handle animals, amongst other things. We even saw how ready the firefighters had to be when their alarm went off during their visit and they had to disappear in a hurry before meeting KS1! Thank you to all the staff in school for planning such a fantastic week for our children and of course to all our wonderful guests who brought the week to life! Hopefully, your child now has lots of ideas about the job they might like to do when they are older, no matter if they are a boy or a girl, and that they are feeling ambitious about achieving their dream!

  • Paddington Bear in Year 1

Wed 23 Jan 2019 Miss Hughes

As part of their current learning around the theme of Toys, Year 1 have been learning about Paddington Bear. Paddington wrote to the children explaining that he needed help with how to make a marmalade sandwich because he is very hungry after his travels! The pupils in Year 1 followed instructions to make a tasty marmalade sandwich and tasted them afterwards. Then, they wrote their own instructions to help Paddington next time! he’s hungry! Let’s hope he doesn’t get into a sticky mess! Thank you to the staff in Year 1 for creating yet another exciting and memorable learning experience for our children.

  • Beauty and the Beast Pantomime!

Mon 21 Jan 2019 Miss Hughes

Last Thursday, our school hall was transformed into a theatre with the arrival of M&M Productions who performed a pantomime version of Beauty and the Beast for us. The show was very enjoyable with lots of audience participation, jokes and songs to join in with. Thank you to everyone who donated towards the cost of this event – what an amazing experience for our children!
