  • Bird nesting at Damson Wood!

    Fri 12 May 2017
We were so excited when a Blue Tit decided to nest in our bird box. She has laid nine eggs which have now hatched. The chicks are being well fed by their busy mum and are now getting larger and have feathers. We are wondering how long it will be until they fly away! Click here to see our photos and videos.
  • Touchwood Escalator Competition

    Wed 10 May 2017

This week, we were very proud of Keira and Mia-Rose who were presented with Highly-Commended prizes at Touchwood Shopping Centre on Wednesday. They each designed posters about escalator safety and were awarded £10 Touchwood gift cards for their efforts! Their posters can now be seen at the bottom of the escalators within the shopping centre so look out for them and stay safe. A huge congratulations to both children who were the only two infant pupils recognised within the 11 prize-winners out of over 200 entries from across Solihull – an incredible achievement!

  • Solihull Healthy Schools Status

    Wed 26 Apr 2017

We are very excited to announce that Damson Wood has recently been awarded Solihull Healthy Schools Status. This award recognises the work our school does to improve the health and wellbeing of our pupils. It recognises the school’s provision for personal social health education, healthy eating, physical wellbeing and emotional wellbeing and mental health.

In our confirmation letter, Natasha Chamberlain from the Solihull Education Improvement Service shared, ‘Congratulations on maintaining your focus and drive as a Healthy School. Through successfully completing a Whole School Review, you have clearly demonstrated that your school has maintained the foundation for health and wellbeing that was originally achieved when you were recognised as a Healthy School.’

Thank to everyone in our school community for their hard work in meeting the criteria for this award and to Mrs Fitter for making the application. Well done, everyone and keep up the hard work!

  • HMI Review - Wednesday 4th February 2015

    Tue 03 Feb 2015
    Dear Parents,

    OFSTED
We have been notified that one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI, Ofsted) will be in school tomorrow, Wednesday 4th   February.  This visit will be used to hold the school to account and assess the progress we have made since the Ofsted inspection last term.  She will also scrutinise the Local Authority’s Action Plan, and that of the school, and judge them to be either ‘Fit for Purpose’ or ‘Not Fit for Purpose’.  Once the Local Authority’s Action Plan has been approved it can then be made available to parents as promised by Chris Palmer.  Also, the LA will then be able to give you further information regarding the future of the school.

    PARENT VIEW
As mentioned in last Friday’s newsletter, we would very much appreciate it if parents/carers would go onto Parent View www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk click on ‘Give Your Views’ at the top, and express their views of the school.  Last term reflected poor views and, whilst we know that we need to continue to work hard to continually improve, we hope that parents are feeling more positive about the school and that this would be reflected in Parent View.  Please share your comments.  IF THIS COULD BE DONE BEFORE TOMORROW THAT WOULD BE PARTICULARLY HELPFUL.  For those of you attending Parents’ Evening today we will have the computers in the IT suite logged on to the appropriate page so you would be welcome to do this then if that is more convenient for you.  We will also do this for the second Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 11th.

    Many thanks

    K Luther-Jones

  • School Closure Procedure

    Thu 29 Jan 2015
Parents  should be aware that  if  there  is a snow closure it will be authorised by the Borough and not individual schools.  Bulletins are given out on local radio stations, a notice will be posted on the website and an email will be sent via parentmail.

Should the closure be indivudual to the school, i.e. boiler breakdown, flood etc an email will be sent to parents and a notice put on the website.
